How long does it take to order a custom piece of furniture? As I run a part-time operation (nights and weekends only) my ability to make custom pieces at this time is limited to only a few per year, and I do prioritize on a first come and first serve basis. I will endeavor to make at least four pieces per year. Length of time for each piece will be determined by the actual piece of furniture requested and its complexity. I do enjoy taking my vacation time from my day job to work on your pieces so never be afraid to inquire!!

Why does my cutting board finish dull with time and use?I use the best finish available for a cutting board...meaning it is non-toxic finish that is food safe!! That being said it is not a finish that forms a protective film and will require maintenance to maintain the glossy appearance. I will only use a food grade mineral oil as the primary wood sealer for the cutting board, however I will top coat the board with an organic bees wax and mineral oil blend (available for sale on our website) to add a more satin sheen to the product. For cutting board care instructions see the next question!!

How do I maintain my cutting board? Our cutting boards are all made from quality locally purchased hardwoods that naturally take on and release moisture as they are used and age. While these natural properties make it a joy to cut on, they also necessitate regular maintenance for a long service life. This cutting board has been initially prepared for use by flooding the board with a food grade mineral oil, buffing the excess off, and then top-coating with a mineral oil and organic bees wax blend. To maintain your cutting board you should hand wash only between uses with warm soapy water, and then dry the board with a clean towel. It is recommended that you do not fully submerge the board. When the surface becomes dull from use, simply apply a coat of mineral oil (available at most local pharmacies or retail outlets). Coat the board liberally until it stops absorbing into the wood, wait 15 minutes, then remove the excess with a clean cotton cloth. Alternatively for a little more protection you can purchase our cutting board wax (available on our website), which will provide a slightly glossier appearance and superior protection. Thank you again for your purchase and enjoy cooking!!
